JAKARTA - A film about Anthony Bourdain is ready to be released. The documentary, titled Roadrunner, will use artificial intelligence (AI) voice.

This project is done under the direction of director, Morgan Neville. The production team for this film collects Bourdain's audio archives and then arranges it as a narrative that seems to be directly spoken by Bourdain.

The audio archive is taken from dozens of hours of audio from films, television, audio books, radio to the appearance of the culinary legend in podcasts. Interviewed by GQ magazine, Neville said, "The bigger the quantity, the better the results."

"We worked with four companies before deciding on the best one."

The production of AI audio by the Roadrunner production team provoked a lot of reactions on social media. Film critic Sean Burns expressed his admiration and surprise.

“When I wrote the (Roadrunner) review, I didn't realize the filmmakers were using artificial intelligence to fake Anthony Bourdain's voice for some of the narrative. I feel like this tells you all there is to know about the ethics of the people behind this project.”

Roadrunner has been released in theaters United States (US) on July 16.
