Support the Implementation of EPR, Unicharm Educates Waste Sorting to the Community in Karawang (Ist)

KARAWANG - PT Uni-Charm Indonesia Tbk (Unicharm) has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental preservation through the "Unicharm Green Action: Let's Sort 3R Waste Together!" program held on April 29, 2026 in Karawang Regency. Collaborating with the Environment and Forestry Service (DLHK) of Karawang Regency and KSM Sahabat Lingkungan Desa Warung Bambu, this activity targets housewives (PKK and Posyandu cadres) as the main pillar of changing habits from the source. This activity is also Unicharm's real support for the implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) or Extended Producer Responsibility.

Waste management is an issue that must be addressed seriously. Based on data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (SIPSN KLHK), more than 50% of the total waste generation in 2025 comes from households. Without sorting, mixed waste with organic residues will lose its recycling value, become dirty, and burden the landfill which has an overload capacity. Recognizing this, Unicharm takes an active role as a responsible manufacturer to support the creation of a cleaner environmental ecosystem. In this initiative, Unicharm not only provides direct counseling to the community, but also combines it with the EPR philosophy which extends the responsibility of the manufacturer to post-consumer waste management to support the national target of reducing waste by 30% in 2029. Through this concrete step, Unicharm provides knowledge to the community regarding the importance of sorting waste directly from its source, namely households, as a primary effort in reducing the burden on the environment and the capacity of the landfill.

At this activity, Unicharm also donated a Drop Box EPR waste disposal facility. Through education and the provision of waste disposal facilities, it is hoped that it will help residents get used to sorting waste from home and then throwing it into the drop box. This habit can be done with 3 easy steps, namely empty & fold, keep it clean & dry, then put it into the drop box according to its type (organic, non-organic, or plastic waste). By sorting waste, the community also contributes to helping the government reduce waste that runs to the landfill. In the future, we hope that this positive synergy can continue to be maintained for the sake of jointly realizing the national waste reduction roadmap", he said.
