JAKARTA - The 2026 National Chinese New Year celebration in Indonesia has made a new achievement with the launch of a short film titled "The Day We Wait" which was worked on by Merah Cipta Media (MCM) and the production house Creative Goods Inc.

This 14-minute cinematic work is not just a complement to the ceremony, but a subtle rebuke and emotional bridge for young generations, especially Gen Z, who are increasingly moving away from the roots of their ancestors' traditions.

Initiated by Antonny Liem, CEO of MCM)l and Founding Partner of GDP Venture, this film was born out of deep anxiety about young people's indifference to the philosophy of culture.

Antonny, who acted as executive producer, saw the urgency to revive the values of Chinese Indonesian traditions so that they would not just be a celebration.

Interestingly, despite carrying a strong Chinese cultural breath, the director's chair was entrusted to George Timothy Nainggolan. This young Batak-blooded genius proves that preserving culture is a collective task of the nation.

George did in-depth research to ensure every detail, from the philosophical meaning of the color red to the symbolism of foods such as misua and basket cakes, was conveyed accurately.

"From when I was a child until now, I grew up surrounded by a lot of Chinese friends. So when I was asked to direct this film, I felt quite close to their culture," George said in his statement, Monday, February 23.

"I hope that all of us, especially Gen Z who are modern and have started to leave tradition, can go back home, to the family, and continue the traditions and cultural values from where they came from," continued George. "That's why we founded the production house Creative Goods Inc, in the hope of being able to create more impactful content, narrative storytelling that can touch many people."

The film is also studded with cross-generational stars and public officials. Special appearances from Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar and Deputy Minister of Empowerment of Women and Child Protection Veronica Tan give their own weight.

The two were present to deliver the message "Harmoni Imlek Nusantara", a reflection of diversity that is very relevant considering that this year's Imlek celebration coincides with the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan.

In the story, the film highlights eight traditional values, including the Yu Sheng tradition which symbolizes prosperity and shared success. The message about tolerance and togetherness in the midst of ethnic and religious differences is a sweet ending, inviting the community to care for diversity.

Now, "The Day We've Been Waiting For" can be watched through the official Imlek Festival YouTube channel. The presence of this film is expected to be a spark for all people, especially young people, to return home and continue the relay of cultural values that are the identity of the Indonesian nation.
