JAKARTA - Starship Entertainment responded after the court ruled against YouTube channel owner Sojang. The famous YouTuber was reported for defamation of several names, one of which was Jang Wonyoung IVE.
Thursday, January 29, the court sentenced YouTuber Park, who is the operator of the Sojang channel. Park was sentenced to two years in prison and suspended for three years for being found guilty of defamation and insult under the Information and Communication Network Law.
Park is accused of uploading 23 videos that are defamatory between October 2021 and June 2023 on the YouTube channel "Sojang," deliberately targeting seven public figures, one of whom was Jang Wonyoung who reported the act.
"Our company is suing the YouTube channel operator Sojang for spreading false information, engaging in insults, and defaming our artists," Starship Entertainment said.
"The court also confirmed that celebrities are entitled to full protection of their honor and personal rights. The Supreme Court concluded that there was no misunderstanding of the legal principle in this ruling and strengthened it completely," he said.
They emphasized that even though the court's decision has been given, this is not the last point for Starship Entertainment to seek justice for their artists.
"Specifically, we will take all possible legal actions under applicable laws - including criminal complaints - against the so-called 'cyber vandals' (a Korean slang term referring to those who deliberately spread false rumors online) who use anonymity to spread false news or incite cyber bullying through videos and short-form content," the agency explained.
In addition to Jang Wonyoung, Kang Daniel, aespa and EXO's Suho also sued Sojang for defamation.
