Japan Named the Safest Holiday Destination in Asia

JAKARTA - Japan is now said to be the safest holiday destination in Asia. This was revealed by a recent study by Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection, a travel insurance company.

In the study, Japan ranked first as the safest country from violent crime in the Asian region for tourists.

Quoted from Travel+Leisure on Thursday, January 15, 2026, the study is based on a survey of US tourists on Asian countries they have visited, as well as the level of security they feel during the trip.

The survey results were then combined with data from the Global Peace Index, Numbeo, and GeoSure, and compared with previous research results to compile rankings of the safest countries in the world.

Then the results show that Japan is the top position as the safest country in Asia. The high level of security in Japan is said to be influenced by various factors.

Starting from an orderly social structure, strict law enforcement, to a culture that upholds harmony. This condition makes the number of street crimes and public disturbances relatively very low, so that tourists can enjoy a more peaceful journey.

In Tokyo, tourists can freely explore popular areas such as Shibuya, Harajuku, and Shinjuku which are always crowded. The city also has a mix of modern architecture, soothing Japanese gardens, and a lively nightlife without having to worry about security.

Japan's high-speed train network also makes it easy for tourists to reach other equally interesting destinations. Mount Fuji is one of the favorite destinations, both to try the climbing trails around it and to enjoy the panorama on the Fuji Panorama Cable Car.
