Broken String by Aurelie Moeremans presents a personal story that is full of meaning and at the same time tells the past of the actress.

Through her story as a survivor of child grooming since the age of 15, Aurelie invites readers to understand that sexual violence does not always come in the form of visible forms. The threat often comes from figures who seem safe, close, and trusted, so it is difficult to realize from the beginning.

In her experience, Aurelie dealt with a man disguised as Bobby, who was then 29 years old. Their relationship began with a professional meeting on the set of an advertisement.

From a psychological point of view, this initial phase becomes the gateway to the grooming process, in which the perpetrator slowly builds emotional closeness.

Bobby began approaching Aurelie through light messages, showing excessive attention by waiting until the filming process was completed, even trying to take a protective role by taking Aurelie and her family home.

All these actions were carried out to create a sense of security and trust, both for Aurelie and her immediate surroundings.

Through various uploads on social media, the 1993-born actress explained that the publication of Broken Strings was not merely to tell the past wounds.

He hopes that his story can be a mirror and warning for young women to be more sensitive to patterns of psychological manipulation from the early stages. In addition, Aurelie also wants to give space for other survivors to reclaim their voices.

From a psychological point of view, the grooming phenomenon does have a complex meaning. Nurul Kusuma Hidayati, M.Psi., Psychologist and Wirdatul Anis, M.Psi. provide an explanation of this phenomenon.

"Before we know much about sexual grooming, grooming actually means positive, namely preparing so that later the results will be more ready or good", said Nurul, quoted from the UGM website.

However, the meaning has changed along with the context and practices that accompany it.

The term grooming is now something that needs to be watched out for. Based on the definition from the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, grooming is understood as a process of building relationships, trust, and emotional bonds with children or adolescents who are then used for the purpose of manipulation, exploitation, and sexual harassment.

"If you look at the definition, there is indeed a keyword to prepare. This means that everything that is done to prepare a child or teenager or someone to be a target," explained Nurul.

Psychologically, sexual grooming serves as an initial stage that makes the victim slowly get used to and normalize the behavior that actually violates the boundaries. This explains why many victims of sexual harassment feel confused when their experiences are considered problematic by others. The feeling of feeling okay is the extreme effect of psychological manipulation that takes place gradually and subtly.

However, sexual grooming is not something that is impossible to prevent. Protection efforts can start from the immediate environment, especially the role of parents in building awareness and providing age-appropriate sexual education.

Wirdatul emphasized that an effective protective approach is not to restrict excessively, but to strengthen the critical power of children.

"In times like this, parents cannot continue to keep children sterile. What parents can do now is strengthen their immunity. So that children know that when there is a teaching that contradicts what parents say, then children will be open in expressing it." explained Wirdatul.
