JAKARTA - Entering the long Christmas and New Year holidays, public interest in traveling, including abroad, tends to increase. Travel, family visits, to urgent cross-country needs make travel documents such as passports a necessity that cannot be delayed.
Responding to the high mobility, the Directorate General of Immigration ensures that immigration services are still available even during the holiday period. The Directorate General (Ditjen) Immigration said that immigration services will continue during the 2025 Christmas and New Year 2026 holidays.
Acting Director General of Immigration, Yuldi Yusman, said his party would still open passport services on a limited basis on national holidays, especially for people who have urgent needs.
Yuldi explained that applicants for passports with emergency conditions that cannot be postponed can still be served directly (walk-in) on December 25 and 26, 2025 and January 1, 2026.
"Urgent conditions include applicants who are sick and must undergo treatment abroad, or applicants who have a core family who has died or is ill abroad. Applicants are required to show supporting documents or evidence that explains the emergency condition," Yuldi explained in his statement.
Meanwhile, passport services on December 29 to 31, 2025 will operate normally as usual. The public can apply for a passport according to the applicable procedures without any special restrictions.
Apart from passport services, the Directorate General of Immigration also ensures that immigration residence permit services continue to run. Applications for residence permits submitted before the Christmas holiday are targeted to be completed before December 25, 2025. Applications that arrive on Christmas Day will be processed and completed in the period from December 29 to December 31, 2025.
However, on certain holidays, Immigration will still provide special residence permit settlement services, especially for foreign nationals who have exceeded the period of residence (overstay) or whose residence permit will expire soon.
"Immigration services at international airports and ports continue to run as usual, even we increase it along with the surge in community movement during the year-end holidays," said Yuldi.
On the supervision side, the Directorate General of Immigration carried out simultaneous immigration supervision throughout Indonesia in the period from December 29, 2025 to January 2, 2026. The focus of supervision is directed to locations with a high concentration of foreign nationals.
Yuldi emphasized that this step is a form of the Immigration's commitment to maintaining the continuity of public services while ensuring the security of the country, especially during times of high community mobility.
He also expressed his appreciation to all immigration officials who continued to carry out their duties during the Christmas and New Year period. According to him, the presence of officers in the field is a tangible proof of the Immigration's commitment to providing optimal services to the public while maintaining state sovereignty.
