JAKARTA - The 2025 Inspirational Women Award, which took place in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Monday, December 22, became an important momentum for Indonesian women to share views on the dual role of women in the modern era.
The event, which was attended by various circles, highlighted crucial issues, ranging from parenting patterns for children with special needs, the dilemma of career versus family, to the elimination of stigma against female workers and housewives.
Senior singer and activist, Dewi Yull, opened the discussion session with a touching story about her struggle to educate children with disabilities. For him, the physical limitations of children are not an obstacle to communication, but a call for parents to learn more actively.
"Time must be held for children. I tried to enter SLB to learn speech methods and sign language," recalled Dewi Yull.
He emphasized that mothers who have children with disabilities should not feel ashamed or lazy. "Prepare ourselves when the child is nothing until the child becomes anyone. Mother is the first madrasah that accompanies the child's manners and morals throughout life," he continued.
In line with Dewi, Arumi Bachsin shared her perspective on the confusion of productive women in choosing between careers and families. Arumi, who took a leave of absence from college and gave up her job to focus on her children's golden age, does not see it as a sacrifice, but rather an honor.
"Some see it as a sacrifice, but for me it's an honor because I have the freedom to choose," said Arumi.
According to him, women are very allowed to have everything - to be a wife, mother, and career woman - as long as it is done gradually.
"We can enjoy every journey. When the child starts school and is independent, the time will return naturally so that we can focus on our careers again," he said.
Arumi also emphasized the importance of communication with a spouse as the key to a successful household. "This responsibility is shared. Compromising with your husband about your career and school timelines is crucial so that women can remain optimal," he added.
Minister of Empowerment of Women and Child Protection (PPPA), Arifatul Choiri Fauzi, highlighted the social stigma that often marginalizes women. He noted that there was an injustice where women who worked were often considered to neglect their families, while women at home were considered a burden.
"This is gender injustice. In fact, both men and women have the same rights to improve their capacity, learn, and work," said Minister Arifatul.
He also reminded the importance of mental health for women. Many cases show that women who carry the burden alone without wanting to tell stories are at risk of experiencing emotional explosions that have a negative impact.
"Don't keep it in, it could be a time bomb. Reveal it, choose a trusted person to release the burden," he said.
