JAKARTA - The excitement of the New Year's Eve 2026 in Jakarta feels a little different, especially in tourist attractions such as Ancol.

The management of PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol Tbk decided to cancel the fireworks show on New Year's Eve, Wednesday (31/12), as a form of empathy and condolences for the disaster that occurred in the Sumatra region.

"We are deeply saddened by the disaster in Sumatra and share the concern and sadness over the disaster that has occurred and pray for the safety and strength of all victims and affected families," said PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol Tbk's Corporate Communication Daniel Windriatmoko in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Daniel explained that the decision was taken as a form of humanitarian concern. In fact, previously the fireworks show was planned to be one of the largest in the New Year's celebration in Jakarta.

According to him, this policy was decided with various considerations so that the moment of welcoming the new year can be lived more meaningfully, in line with the spirit of solidarity and togetherness as one nation.

Even though there was no fireworks, Ancol ensured that the New Year's Eve series of activities would still take place. A number of entertainment agendas, such as the Peduli Sumatera Concert at the Carnaval Ancol Beach which featured Dewa 19 feat Ello, Helloband, and FiveMinutes, as well as the New Palapa Concert at the Festival Beach, were still held.

The series of concerts will be more focused on togetherness, prayer, donation, and reflection, so that it is hoped that it can become a space for strengthening and hope for the community.

"We invite all visitors to make this New Year's Eve a moment of reflection and prayer together, while cultivating new hope that with togetherness and concern, we can strengthen each other and rise to face the future," he said.

Previously, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung Wibowo also emphasized that there would be no fireworks in the New Year's Eve celebration in Jakarta.

"I immediately decided on fireworks, in my opinion, there is no need for it. So just use (attractions) drones," said Pramono.

However, Pramono emphasized that the New Year's Eve celebration would still be held, albeit with a simpler concept.

He assessed that as the capital of the country and a global city, Jakarta remains in the spotlight of the world so that the new year celebration still needs to be held.

On the other hand, Pramono also does not prohibit people from celebrating the new year as a form of expression of gratitude in their own way.

"I also don't want everyone to have to, not to be grateful in other ways. Because after all, Jakarta as the capital of the country will be seen by other countries. So I will ask a special team to prepare it," said Pramono.
