JAKARTA Nature preservation is becoming increasingly important amidst increasing pressure on ecosystems and climate change. Efforts to maintain forests and restore damaged areas are now seen as an important step to ensure environmental sustainability while improving the quality of life of the community.

The tree planting program is a form of real contribution that can provide ecological, social, and economic benefits in the long term.

Since its introduction in 2023, a national scale tree planting program has succeeded in planting more than 40,000 trees in five provinces. This initiative plays a role in restoring the affected ecosystem, as well as strengthening the ability of nature to absorb carbon, which is estimated at 465 tons per year.

The re-presence of trees not only revives the function of forests, but also provides natural habitats for various species, including endangered animals.

On the social side, local communities are an important part of this environmental recovery process. They are involved from the nursery stage to maintenance, which indirectly raises awareness of the importance of protecting nature.

The training provided made them understand tree cultivation and care techniques better, while women's participation as rangers showed that natural conservation could be an inclusive empowerment space.

In addition to ecological and social benefits, this initiative also has an economic impact on local residents. Farmers and local managers earn additional income from tree breeding and care activities.

Improvements in environmental conditions also support the increase in productive plant products, which then provide benefits for hundreds of villagers and open up potential natural resource-based businesses in a sustainable manner.

As a development measure, the program from AIA is now collaborating with fashion brands as far as the eye looks at land conservation in the Leuser area, Aceh, covering an area of 10 hectares.

Planting and monitoring activities involve local farmers and women, in the hope of building more sustainable economic value while preserving the environment.

"This is a tangible manifestation of our commitment to create a positive impact on the environment as well as empower the community, in accordance with the sustainability principles that we carry,"

"We want to invite the public to take care of their overall health in terms of physically, mentally, financially, and environmentally because nature affects all aspects of life. Trees and insurance protection have the same in common as both of them providing protection for our loved ones," said Kathryn Parapak, Chief Marketing Officer of AIA, in a statement to VOI.

On the other hand, Chitra Subyakto, Founder As Far As Mata Views, said the collaboration, which is also supported by the Leser Conservation Forum and the Haka Foundation, is in line with his vision of preserving nature through a sustainable approach.

"We hope that this initiative will not only restore land, but also revive the expectations of the surrounding community," he said.

This tree planting program is an example that natural conservation can run in line with community empowerment. Through the involvement of many parties in environmental management, this initiative is expected to be able to create a sustainable impact that strengthens relations between humans and nature.
