JAKARTA - Minister of Culture (Menbud) Fadli Zon opened the 2025 Indonesian Traditional Music Festival (FMTI) which presents collaborations in the ethnic music community from seven regions of Central Java.
In his remarks at the event held at Kartini Beach, Jepara, Saturday, November 15, Fadli emphasized the digitization of the key to the sustainability of traditional music. He invited the younger generation to bring traditional music into the digital space.
"Technology is a giant microphone that listens to ancestral voices to the world," Fadli said in a press release.
This year's FMTI is known to be a series of continuations after previously being held in Lampung, Bukittinggi, and Banjarmasin.
When held in Jepara, the festival featured Fanny Soegi, Kill The DJ, Gon Gun N Friends, and the Lokovasia Laboratory as a traditional music experiment space towards contemporary music.
Fadli then pushed Macapat, Kentrung, Emprak, and gamelan barrels to be processed into digital works that are easily accessible and distributed.
Fadli also emphasized the important value of Javanese tradition as reflected in the Centhini Serat. According to him, traditional music is not just entertainment, but knowledge and identity that must be maintained through innovation.

The Ministry of Culture, said Fadli, has been running the Music Ecosystem Strengthening program with the Indonesian Music Conference and MTN in the music sector. FMTI itself has involved dozens of artists and attracted more than 10,000 visitors in various regions.
FMTI was also attended by Deputy Chairperson of the MPR Lestari Moerdijat, Deputy Chairman of Commission VIII DPR Abdul Wachid, members of the DPR Andhika Satya and Jamaludin Malik, Regent of Jepara Witiarso Utomo, and Forkopimda Jepara. Accompanying the Minister was attended by Director General Ahmad Mahendra, Syaifullah Agam, Putri Woelan Sari, Rachmanda Primayuda, Agus Mulyana, and Putu Supadma Rudana.
