Edo Kondologit Resigns From PDIP And Southwest Papua DPRD, Choose To Focus On Social Activities

JAKARTA Singer and politician from Papua, Edo Kondologit, officially declared his resignation from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) and from his position as a member of the Southwest Papua DPRD. The surprising decision was announced by Edo in an open statement before reporters in Sorong, last weekend.

"Today, with full awareness without coercion, I resign from PDIP and as a member of the Southwest Papua DPRD," said Edo Kondologit, who has the real name Ehud Edward Kondologit, on Friday (3/10/2025).

Edo explained that this decision had gone through a process of lengthy reflection and careful consideration. He felt it was time to take a new path outside the political world. "I've been thinking about this seriously and looking at the political dynamics that have occurred recently. That's why I chose this path," he said.

Want To Focus On Serving In The Social Sector

Edo admitted that while he was a member of the DPRD, he could not optimally fight for the aspirations of the people he represented. Therefore, he plans to return to Jakarta to take part in the social sector. "In Jakarta, my reach can be wider. I don't want to be bound to any political party in the future," he said.

As an artist, Edo is used to working with conscience. But in the world of politics, according to him, many things are not always in line with conscience. "In politics, sometimes we have to hit our conscience. I'm uncomfortable with that," he said.

Say Thank You To PDIP And Constituents

Edo also apologized to the constituents who had entrusted him as a representative of the people. He admitted that he had not done much during his time as a member of the DPRD.

Not to forget, Edo expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the PDIP management for the cooperation so far. "I thank Mrs. Megawati Soekarnoputri for receiving and forging me at PDIP so far. Also to Mr. Komaruddin Watubun and all levels of PDIP Southwest Papua," he said.

Edo Kondologit emphasized that he is ready to accept all the consequences of his decision to withdraw from the PDIP and the political stage. "I will still serve Papua and Indonesia. May God bless you," he concluded.
