Not Just Sports, Padel Becomes A Lifestyle Of Urban Generation

JAKARTA - Pedel sports are on the rise in various parts of the world, including in Indonesia. Its popularity is increasingly felt in Jakarta, especially among young people who are looking for alternative sports exciting, modern and can also be a place to socialize.

President Director of PT PERURI Properti, Fakky Ismail Hidayat, assessed that this trend cannot be separated from the attraction of padel that can be played by all groups, both men and women, from various ages.

"Hopefully, if more and more people play, maybe outstanding athletes will be born from this padel sport," he added.

According to him, the high interest of the community has been seen from the difficulty of getting a playing schedule.

"Yesterday we just booked the field for one month to two months. That is the easiest indicator that the padel is really in demand by the community," he added.

Unlike tennis or squash, padel is played on a smaller glass-walled field. This game combines speed, strategy, as well as social interaction, making it a choice for urban sports loved by the younger generation. Fakky emphasized that this sport has its own advantages.

"This sports can be played by all groups, both men and women, of various ages. So apart from being healthy, the padel is also an inclusive social meeting room," he said.

To respond to the enthusiasm of the community, PERURI launched the Padel at Alley in the Blok M area, South Jakarta. The facility with the concept of urban sports hub with the theme 'Allies to Your Day' is expected to become a new center of sport as well as a lifestyle for young people.

PerURI President Director, Dwina Septiani Wijaya added that the presence of Padel at Alley was not only for sports, but also for building a positive collaboration space.

"Padel Alley is a place to build a productive and creative community, a meeting place between corporations and the creative industry, as well as a means of healthy collaboration to produce positive works in developing the country," said Dwina.

This facility will open to the public starting October 6, 2025 with an online reservation system through the DOOgether application and the official Grand Opening on October 13, 2025.

The presence of padel in Jakarta further enriches urban sports choices after previously the trend of marathon running, yoga, and futsal emerged. With its unique appeal, padel is predicted to become a new lifestyle for young urban people.
