Review Of Women's Resulting Film: Fajar Nugros' New Effort Brings Classical Stories

JAKARTA - Director Fajar Nugros presents the latest film titled Perempuan Sisel. This film premiered on JAFF 2024 before it was widely released in Indonesian cinemas starting Thursday, September 18.

The film Pembawa Siasa tells the story of Mirah (Raihaanun) who will marry Aryo (Banyu Bening), but their marriage did not last long after Aryo died in a tragic incident. Then, Mirah looks for a new life while still working in a factory.

Mirah turns out to be experiencing Laweyan's shoulder where everyone who has a relationship with her will end in tragedy. Mirah looked for a new place until she decided to marry her superior, but a similar incident happened to her partner.

The two-time incident made the community and those around them condemn Mirah's whereabouts. One day, Mirah meets Puti (Clara Bernadeth), her half-brother who has not communicated with her for a long time.

On the other hand, Mirah also met Bana (Morgan Oey), a seller at a Padang restaurant who was interested in Mirah. Even so, terror still approached Mirah until she had to finish everything.

Fajar Nugros and Husein M. Atmodjo collaborated again to create the Women Carrying Sigal. This film tells the classic story of Bawang Merah Bawang Putih in a modern style and of course horror.

The opening scene is short but confirms that a big terror will be present in Mirah's life. This scene instills high expectations for what happens next.

The cinematography also feels focused so that the audience can see who is the main focus. Another interesting part is the series of jumpscare that the director put in unexpected scenes. The moment made him tired because of his timing which was not far away.

Didik Nini Thowok, who was present, became a little iconic with her appearance, although the storytelling portion could actually be developed in the plot.

The long and complicated story makes the audience have to follow Mirah's journey. Some parts feel long but are still eagerly awaited.

This film offers how people view a woman who is often used as an object, but it is not very explored even though it can be developed. The director chose to repeat the series of jumpscare in order to keep this film going horror.

What is built with a potential ends flatly and leaves a feeling that is easy to forget. Even so, this film has a classic mixed story that can be fresh in its genre.
