Want To Be A Professional Architect, Know How To Get A STRA According To Government Regulations

JAKARTA - In carrying out the practice of architects, an architect must have an Architect Registration Certificate (STRA) issued by the Council of Architects of Indonesia (DAI) in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 6 of 2017 concerning Architects and Government Regulation Number 15 of 2021 concerning Implementing Regulations of Law Number 6 of 2017 concerning Architects. DAI, which is tasked with assisting the Government in organizing architect profession, has a term of office of 5 years which will expire in December 2025.

"Therefore, the Indonesian Architects Association (IAI) formed the DAI Selection Expert Panel to conduct a selection of prospective DAI members for the 2025-2030 term of service. The Expert Panel formed by IAI on June 30, 2025 through KPN No.012/KPN/IAI VI/2025 consists of elements of the Government, Professional Organization (IAI), academics and independent," said Ar. G. Budi Yulianto as Chairman of IAI.

This Expert Panel consists of Ir. Diana Kusumastuti, M.T., from elements of the Government, Ar. Bambang Soemardiono, IAI, Ar. Firman Herwanto, IAI, Ar. Anila Pramesti, IAI, Ar. David Bambang Soediono, IAI, Ar. I Kadek Pranajaya, IAI, AA, and Ar. William B. Serworwora, IAI, from elements of the Professional Organization, Dr. Ir. Ar. Achmad Delianur Nasution, S.T., MT., IAI, AA, IAP, GP, IPU from elements of academics and Ir. H. Sigit Sosiantomo from independent elements.

Panel Expert akan melakukan proses seleksi dengan tahapan sebagai berikut:

1. administrative selection;2. Reflective essay3. Psychotes;4. Interview;5. Medical check-up;

"The administrative selection stage for prospective DAI members will be opened from 7 August 2025 to 20 September 2025. The candidate for DAI members will submit a request and complete requirements to the Expert Panel via email which will then be continued with the next stages of selection until 12 people are selected who will be submitted by IAI to the Government. The government through the Minister of Public Works will strengthen 9 people to become the Indonesian Architect Council for the 2025-2030 term of service," he explained.

Based on Law Number 6 of 2017 concerning Architects, DAI members consist of elements of the Professional Organization (IAI), service users and universities. At the selection stage this time, the Expert Panel opens up opportunities for State Civil Apparatus (ASN) and the general public to run through elements of Service Users, of course with special conditions imposed by the Expert Panel.

"In addition to universities, academics who have undergraduate degree of education are allowed to run with the approval of the Chancellor with notification to the Indonesian Architectural Higher Education Association (APTARI)," he added.

Meanwhile, from the elements of the Professional Organization, prospective members with experience as IAI Professional Members, prioritizing experience as principal architects and or heads of business entities, will be nominated by each IAI Provincial Management through the IAI National Working Meeting mechanism.

The selection process for prospective members of the Indonesian Architect Council is expected to attract candidates for DAI members who have competence, understanding and implementation of Architect Practice policies both nationally and internationally.

In the future, DAI is expected to carry out its duties and functions more optimally in terms of organizing and developing architectural competency tests, competency certificates of Architects, STRA and Foreign Architects, managing and developing architects' professional standards, and encouraging policy implementation related to the honorarium of Architect services.

"Panel Expert invites professionals, academics, and service user representatives who meet the requirements to participate in this selection to build a stronger and more professional future for the Indonesian architect profession," he concluded.
