JAKARTA - In the era of digital transformation, tourist villages are now not only offering natural beauty and cultural wealth, but also starting to adopt technology as part of the development of local potential.
The use of digital technology allows tourism villages to expand the range of promotion, improve tourist services, and strengthen the creative economy and preservation of local culture. This concept is the key in realizing independent, adaptive, and competitive villages.
In line with this, Padang State University (UNP) took part in the development of Silungkang Oso Village, Silungkang District, Sawahlunto City, West Sumatra.
Through the Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program (PK Ormawa), UNP involves students in empowering digital-based communities, creative economy, and preserving local cultural values.
"This program is not just an academic activity, but a tangible form of student contribution in developing villages and supporting national development," said Asep Surjana Wahyuri, Director of UNP Student Affairs, when met in Padang, as quoted by ANTARA.

He explained that the involvement of students, especially from UNP film and photography activities units, became a synergy bridge between universities and local communities. This collaboration aims to create a sustainable tourism village that combines technology, economic innovation, and cultural wealth.
Silungkang Oso Village itself has many tourism potentials, including Goa Kelambu and Camping Ground Bukit Silungkang, which were developed by local tourism awareness groups. In addition, this village is also known for its cultural wealth such as the traditional music of Talempong Batuang, as well as various MSME products including typical culinary, handicrafts, and creative works of young people who are starting to take advantage of digital media.
Raising the theme "Empowerment of Oso Silungkang Community through Digital Transformation, Innovation of Creative Economy-Based Products and Culture to Create Sustainable Tourism Villages", this program is expected to strengthen the village's foundation so that it is more independent and competitive at the regional and national levels.
Head of the Silungkang District Government Section, Multazam, welcomed the student's presence in this program. He considered that the collaboration gave a new color and became the trigger for internal change, especially through an educational and creative approach.
The same thing was conveyed by the Head of Silungkang Oso Village, Ferdinal. He expressed his gratitude for the contribution of UNP students in village development. We have a lot of potential, both in terms of nature, culture, and human resources. The presence of students is a new energy for accelerating the development of our tourist village," he said.
