The Story Of Ummi Quary Exploring The Role Of Young Widow In The Film Assalamualaikum Baitullah

JAKARTA - Actress Ummi Quary revealed the challenges she faced when playing the character of a young widow named Icha in the film Assalamualaikum Baitullah.

In an exclusive interview at the VOI office recently, Ummi shared the process of deepening characters that were full of emotions and personal reflections.

"Honestly, Icha is a young widow and I have never felt a widow and don't let it happen. So it's quite difficult because I have to take into account the feelings of a widow who is left behind or divorced," said Ummi Quary honestly.

An emotional journey of a woman who has just divorced, according to Ummi, is not an easy thing to understand and show, especially given the social stigma that is often attached to widow status in society.

"Then how can he cheer up again and get back up again is not easy, right. So a single mom or divorced from being a widow in my opinion at this time the connotation is a bit negative, so it's quite difficult actually," he continued.

To explore this role, Ummi admitted that she discussed a lot and dug deeper with the help of an acting coach. He was even given a special task to understand the characters of each character in the story.

"I'm just always keen, how do I feel, how can Icha be sincere because we have an acting coach who is how our acting coach is given each role and each other's homework," he explained.

The character approach method applied by the production team is quite unique. The players are made a list of songs according to the personality of the characters they play, including background stories such as zodiacal to past experiences.

"If Amira has a playlist of the song like what, what kind of playlist I am, what am I like. And always make up the story that we make ourselves, for example what kind of zodiacal Ica is, why did she become like this," continued Ummi.

With this approach, Ummi admitted that she could better understand and feel the emotional depth of Icha's character, including her strength in dealing with life after divorce.

"So we can feel, 'Oh Ica turns out to hurt this much why can she strengthen someone because he was already strong with himself," he said.

In this film, Ummi Quary will compete acting with Michelle Ziudith, Arbani Yasiz, Tissa Biani and Miqdad Addausy. This film will air starting July 17.
