Getting To Know Garuda School And 2 Running Schemes

YOGYAKARTA The government initiated the Garuda School which is intended for excellent students with above average achievements. In addition, students with certain criteria will also take education at the school. Although it has not been officially formed, the rendana for the establishment of the Garuda School has received a positive response. The community itself is holding the Garusda School as one of the initiatives of President Prabowo Subianto.

Garuda School is one of the plans that is part of President Prabowo Subianto's Fast Best Result Program (PHTC) regarding Asta Cita for strengthening Indonesian natural resources and the scientific and technological ecosystem.

Garuda schools are deliberately designed to provide access to high-quality education in science and technology. The school is intended for children in Indonesia, especially from families with underprivileged economic backgrounds.

Reporting from Antara, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek) currently has two schemes for implementing the Garuda School, which is as follows.

This scheme will involve the transformation of SMA and MA that previously existed so that the school is able to compete globally. The following is a list of 12 Garuda Transformation Schools that have started running.

This scheme is directed to build new high schools in certain areas where there is no access to quality education. Currently, the construction of the Garuda Baru School has been carried out in three places, namely the cities of Soe Nusa Tenggara Timur, Bangka Belitung, and Nabire, Central Papua. The plan is for this school to start operating during the 2026/2027 school year.

Garuda Baru schools are projected to be able to accommodate 160 students per generation. The education costs of all students of 80 percent will be borne by the government, the rest must be paid independently.

Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Stella Christie explained that later Garuda School will implement a dormitory system. That way students from all over Indonesia can live and study together, as well as have a cross-cultural and regional understanding.

"Children from Aceh can live in Papua, children from Java can study in East Nusa Tenggara. They will understand each other and respect differences," said Stella Christie.
