JAKARTA - The Denpasar City Government through the Culture Service continues to be committed to safeguarding and preserving local cultural wealth. In 2025, two elements of Denpasar's culture are proposed as Indonesia's Intangible Cultural Heritage (WBTB) to strengthen recognition and protection of the wealth of traditions that live in the community.
Raka Purwantara, Head of the Denpasar City Culture Service, accompanied by Ni Wayan Sri Witari as Head of Cultural and Settlement Conservation Division, explained that the process of proposing two WBTBs, namely Gending Ancag-Ancagan from Banjar, wascam Kesiman and Baris Gede Telek from Banjar Belong Sanur, is underway and has entered the verification stage by the central level WBTB Expert Team.
"Verification is being carried out, and we hope that these two heritages can be officially designated as Indonesian WBTB at the decision hearing which is planned to take place next August," said Raka in Denpasar, as quoted by ANTARA, June 10.

This proposal is part of the Denpasar City Government's strategy in documenting and maintaining local cultural heritage so that it is not lost, misinterpreted, or claimed by outsiders. This process is not only for recognition, but also a form of responsibility for the preservation of the noble values of Balinese culture, especially Denpasar.
"We want to ensure that the original art and traditions of Denpasar are recorded in the national inventory portal, as a measure to protect and strengthen local cultural identity," he explained.
Raka also added that since 2019, the Denpasar City Culture Service has implemented a cultural inventory program that includes academic studies and production of visual documentation in the form of short videos or films. This process became the initial stage before a cultural work was proposed to the national level.
"Every stage is carried out according to procedures ranging from recording to drafting proposal forms complete with study and supporting documentation," he continued.
He hopes that this effort will continue in the coming years as part of the promotion of culture, as well as affirming Denpasar's position as a city rich in artistic heritage and traditions that should be jointly guarded.
