JAKARTA - This year, JAFF Market is proud to support a number of filmmakers, studios, producers, and Indonesian projects participating in Cannes.

One of them is Pangku, a coming-of-age drama film set in the 1998 Indonesian economic crisis, which is also the debut of directing well-known Indonesian actor Reza Rahadian.

This film was first introduced through the JAFF Future Project 2024, won the White Light Post-Production Award, and will be screened in the HAF Goes to Cannes program at Marché du Film as a representation of the strength of Indonesia's cinema story.

Not only Pangku, three original IP projects from JAFF Content Market 2024 will also be brought to the Spotlight Asia - Asian IP Adaptation program: Showbox Masterclass & Pitching Session at Marché du Film, affirming JAFF Market's efforts to push Indonesia's stories to the world stage:

· Focus from a Kosmic independent publisher, founded by senior comic Sunny Gho. Sunny is known to contribute to major Marvel projects, DC Comics, and Star Wars, as well as actively building an independent comic ecosystem in Indonesia through Cosmic and JICAF.

· Bandits of Batavia by Bryan Valenza and his studio, Beyondtopia. Bryan is known globally for his work in Venom: Lethal Protector, Batman & The Joker: The Deadly Duo, as well as various titles in Image Comics. This latest project combines Indonesian folkklore with modern and dynamic visual narratives.

· Jitu, from Caravan Studio, was founded by illustrator and designer Chris Lie. Caravan Studio has been involved in major projects such as Game of Thrones, Transformers, Star Wars, and Shazam, as well as in collaboration with well-known companies such as Sony, Konami, Mattel, and Marvel Comics.

"Cannes gives us the opportunity to show energy and opportunities that are developing rapidly in the Indonesian film industry. We are very proud because a number of selected JAFF Market projects such as Pangku, Locust, Bandits of Batavia, and Jitu can now move on to the world stage at Cannes," said Ifa Isfansyah, JAFF's Festival Director and JAFF Market President Commissioner.

In addition, JAFF Market will collaborate with the Netherlands Film Fund on May 16 at the SEE NL pavilion in a networking event to strengthen the implementation of the co-production agreement between Indonesia and the Netherlands which was signed at the JAFF Market 2024. This event was supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia.

JAFF Market will also work with Adelaide Film Festival from Australia, which is a partner of JAFF Market 2024, in a discussion and networking session held on May 18 at the Australian Screen booth, as a first step in expanding cooperation between the two countries' film industry.

To increase the exposure of Indonesian studios and investors in the international arena, JAFF Market also cooperates with Visinema* and Jagartha** through a series of networking events that bring together Indonesian film industry players and international partners.

"2025 is an important momentum, not only because JAFF celebrates its 20 years of work to support Asian cinema, but also because JAFF Market is here again with greater enthusiasm to become a collaboration platform for filmmakers, producers, and industry players from within and outside the country. Hopefully, the presence in Cannes can expand the network and create a real impact for the Indonesian film ecosystem in the future," said Linda Gozali, JAFF Market Director.

The Indonesian film industry continues to show tremendous growth by recording more than 80 million cinemagoers and controlling 65% of the local market share by 2024. As part of the 20 year celebration, the second edition of the JAFF Market will be held on November 29, December 1, 2025 in Yogyakarta to expand global partnerships and support the new generation of Southeast Asian filmmakers.
