JAKARTA - K-pop group (G)I-DLE made a horrendous announcement on its 7th anniversary. They announced the change of group name to i-dle starting Friday, May 2.

The day before, they released a nearly two-minute video teaser containing the five members who came to a coffin. This video also has the background for their debut song, LATATA with a different version.

At the end of the video, they wrote i-dle as a sign for their new group name. The letter G in the group name is deleted. It is known that the letter G in the group means or Yeo-ja which means female in Korean.

The abolition of the letter G is intended so that their group is not defined as a woman or gender. They also delete the -sign to provide unlimited concepts and music.

The Cube Entertainment agency also announced that i-dle will release two albums this month to celebrate its 7th year debut.

The special mini album will be released on May 2 at 18.00 Korean time digitally and will be followed by the 8th mini album on May 19 at the same time.

I-dle debuted with six people in 2018. Then, one member, Soojin left the group in 2021.

Since then, i-dle has continued to actively release albums and tour the world. In 2024, they will undergo their third world tour after releasing the album I Railway.

The Soyeon group leader also announced that the five i-dle members had renewed their exclusive contract with Cube Entertainment.
