Dangdut Sudden Film Review (2025); New Style With Old Story

JAKARTA - Director Monty Tiwa presents his latest film, Suddenly Dangdut. Uniquely, this film is not a remake of the previous film he made in 2006 but the latest version with a repackaged one.

Anya Geraldine was lined up as the main character alongside Joshua Pandelaki (in his last work), Nurra Dukata, Keanu Angelo, Sadha Triyudha, Calvin Jeremy, Fajar Nugra, Opie Kumis, Wika Salim, and many others.

Suddenly Dangdut (2025) tells the story of Naya (Anya Geraldine), an acoustic singer who is successful suddenly experiences an incident where she is suspected of being a criminal.

Naya and her sister, Lola (Nurra Dua) and their Alzheimer's father, Anwar (Joshua Pandelaki) fled to avoid arrests. On the other hand, they had to heal his father's memory because his father was suspected of being a witness to the incident.

Suddenly Naya was in a village where he met Wawan (Keanu Angelo) and Wendhoy (Fajar Nugra), two people who tried to create a single organ group. They offered Naya to become their orchestra singer to perform dangdut songs.

Naya refused because according to her, dangdut is not the genre she likes, but on the one hand, she has to make money to support her life. From there, Naya began to become a dangdut singer who actually brought her to new challenges.

At first glance, hearing the premise is not much different from the 2006 version of the film. The action of running away as well as adapting to being a dangdut singer is the main story, but here there is a lot of story development.

In addition to the Naya conflict, the film Suddenly Dangdut (2025) presents the interaction between father and son displayed by several characters, as well as the fierce competition between two well-known orchestraes.

Both the drama side and the comedy side mix sweetly. The portion of the drama was deployed to Joshua Pandelaki which was quite touching.

In the comedy section, all players give their abilities well. Keanu Angelo, Fajar Nugra, Anya are interspersed by Anya Geraldine and Opie Kumis plays their portion which makes the audience don't stop laughing.

Several bits and ad-libs from their comedy brought this film to life among the dramas. Not to mention the tweets and entertaining comedy acts.

Among these excitements, unfortunately the musicality part is not satisfactory. As is known, the film Suddenly Dangdut highlighted the struggle of a pop singer who became a dangdut singer.

In this film, the musicality part does not help the plot. Several times there are songs that are inserted in the scene, even though not all scenes require music. This music scene seems to be a film that leads to a musical rather than a comedy drama.

Apart from that, Suddenly Dangdut still managed to build laughter and become an entertaining film.

Dangdut's sudden film (2025) opens Wednesday, April 30 in theaters.
