The Reason The Director Doesn't Delete Yoo Ah In's Scene In The Match Even Though He Controversy In Drug Cases

JAKARTA - Director Kim Hyung Ju opened his voice about actor Yoo Ah In who became the main character of his latest film, The Match. The film will still be released without eliminating the scene of the actor who became the center of controversy due to drug cases.

This is different from the promotional material circulating where there is no Yoo Ah In scene seen in the video either poster or trailer. The promotional video shown only focuses on Lee Byung Hun as Yoo Ah In's co-star.

"Regarding the trailer and promotional material, we edited (parts) Yoo," said Kim Hyung Ju, launching the Korea Times.

After all, changing Yoo's part in the film will not shape his story. Because this film is about two people, there are structural issues," he said.

In September 2024, Yoo Ah In was sentenced to one year in prison for drug use. He was released in February after receiving an attempted sentence from the court.

"I want to believe the audience will understand after the film is released. From the director's point of view, the film was formed long before it was released so I don't want to add more burden," he said.

Yoo Ah In, who has been released from prison, is also not seen promoting this film. It seems that the actor has not planned to return to the entertainment world.

The Match tells of rivalry between two Go legends, namely Cho Hun Hyun (Lee Byung Hun) and Lee Chang Ho (Yoo Ah In).

Initially, this film was planned to be shown on Netflix, but the distributor changed the plan to be released in theaters.

"We were originally preparing for the release of the cinema. I think it's the cinema that makes the film a film so I'm happy to meet the audience here," he said. The Match film is scheduled to hit theaters this month.
