JAKARTA - Director Bong Joon Ho is back with his latest film, Mickey 17. This film became his latest work after gaining attention with the film Parasite which was successful internationally.

Adapted from Edward Ashton's Mickey 7 novel, the film stars Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Mark Ruffalo, Toni Collette, Holliday Grainger, Anamaria Vartomei, Thomas Turgoose, and so on.

Mickey 17 tells the story of Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson), a young man who wants to get out of Earth. One day, Barnes registers for a Nilfheim human colony mission.

This human colony mission will be Barnes as a cloned and disposable worker. Mickey Barnes was also tasked with carrying out various dangerous missions with a new, degenerate body.

Every time he dies, his body will turn into a new Mickey and undergo his new mission. Once upon a time, one of his clones, Mickey 17 (to-17) was mistakenly considered dead and replaced before his mission ended.

When Mickey 17 returned to the colony, he was surprised to find his replacement, Mickey 18. Under the colony's rules, there was only one expectable at a time.

As a result, if officers find out that Mickey 17 is still there, then Mickey 18 will be demolished. The two began to clash and plan how they were against those who colonized the colony.

The process of this film has been going on for a long time, which Bong has been working on his script since 2021. The first actor he thought about for Mickey Barnes' role was Robert Pattinson and the actor immediately accepted the offer.

The film premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in February before airing in South Korea at the end of last month.

Meanwhile, Mickey 17 will hit Indonesian cinemas starting Wednesday, March 5.
