JAKARTA - The Korean version of You Are the Apple of My Eye is present as a remake of the Taiwanese film of the same name. The iconic film was then translated into a Korean version and directed by Cho Young Myong.

This film pairs Dahyun TWICE and Jinyoung B1A4 on one screen, besides that this film marked Dahyun's acting debut after a career with TWICE. The original story is trying to be presented in a story with a touch of Korean culture, is it successful?

You Are the Apple of My Eye tells the story of Jin Woo (Jinyoung B1A4) who experiences failing with his friends. One of the things that changes them is the emergence of an attraction to the opposite sex and they like Seon A (Dahyun TWICE), their beautiful and smart classmate.

For them, Seon A looks like someone who cannot be reached because of academic differences and character. One day, Seon A forgot to bring a textbook and Jin Woo handed over his book. Jin Woo was actually punished for not bringing a book.

Touched by Jin Woo's kindness, Seon A starts teaching Jin Woo and they get closer. Once upon a time, Seon A made a fatal mistake and failed to enter a university in Seoul, while Jin Woo focused on lessons and entered a university in Seoul.

Even though they are different schools, they keep in touch. An incident when they fail to express their feelings, they choose to stay away.

With the story from an iconic Taiwanese film, it is not difficult for directors and writers to "forward" the story to the Korean version. With the background, the selection of musical numbers, and catchphraces used are a form of nostalgia adapted to the country.

The development of the character is also deemed unbalanced. Dahyun, who initially looked stiff, actually started smoothly when the second half of the film where the emotions shown began to vary.

Likewise with Jinyoung who just felt his turning point when the second half appeared. As a result, the audience only felt close to the story in the middle.

In terms of visuals, this film highlights the warm side and makes you amazed by the color choices.

There is nothing new about this nostalgic story but the story is always interesting to follow, especially talking about friendship and remembering the past.

The film You Are the Apple of My Eye Korea will hit Indonesian cinemas starting Friday, February 21.
