YOGYAKARTA The All-Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) sacked Shin Tae-yong (STY) after 5 years of training the Indonesian national team (timnas). The South Korean tactician was announced to the public on December 28, 2019 and removed from his position as a coach in early January 2025. Shin Tae-yong's coaching work in Indonesia began when he became the U20 national team tactician in the friendly match against Bulgaria in September 2020.

The first victory of the Garuda Squad under STY occurred in the 2021 U20 World Cup preparatory match which was won by the national team with a score of 2-1 against Qatar on September 17, 2020.

Next, STY made his debut as the senior national team's training in the friendly match against Oman in May 2021 which ended in a 1-3 defeat.

STY's first victory with the senior national team was achieved against Taiwan in October 2021 in the first qualifying match of the 2022 Asian Cup with a score of 2-1.
