Hanung Bramantyo Gives Limits To Sex Scenes In The Film Gowok Kamasutra Java

Raihaanun and Reza Rahadian were re-paired in the film Gowok Kamasutra Java. The film Production MVP Pictures, directed by Hanung Bramantyo, is currently shooting at the Gamplong studio, Yogyakarta.

In Javanese culture, Gowok is the term for women who are hired to teach about households and sexuality to men as teenagers or before marriage. The bride and groom's family rents out gowok for their children before getting married. Gowok will teach one of them about satisfying his wife and introducing a female body.

"Kamasutra is from India. It's a book that contains the sexual procedures or education of married couples. Meanwhile, in Java there is a Serat Centhini. But if I say Centhini, who knows it is a little Javanese, if I call this the film Kamasutra Java, maybe people will understand," said Hanung Bramantyo when met at the shooting location 'Gowok Kamasutra Jawa', Gamplong, Yogyakarta, Wednesday, July 10.

Hanung was grateful that MVP Pictures positively welcomed the idea of the film Gowok Kamasutra Java. "I feel Pak Raam really likes unique things. From the beginning, making films with Pak Raam was all unique, starting from the Bright, Love but Different, Soekarno and finally God Allows Me to sin," said Hanung.

"I make this film still for the market, not just for festivals. I make films for Indonesians and the market is Indonesian, but if it is brought abroad I feel that I can still relate, general problems are not just Indonesia's problems," he continued.

Hanung also revealed that Gowok Kamasutra Java will not publish sex scenes. "This film will not be like Mira Nair's 'Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love'. I will not show scenes that make the audience feel disgust. So the audience don't worry, I also know how many boundaries are," he concluded.

Apart from Raihaanun and Reza Rahadian, this film also stars Lola Amaria, Ali Fikry, Nayla Denny Purnama, Slamet Rahardjo, Djenar Maesa Ayu, Aldy Bias, Donny Damara, and many more.
