Kim Sejeong Makes Plant As A Marker For His Solo Debut

JAKARTA - Kim Sejeong released a mini album (EP) containing five songs. To inaugurate this solo debut, the Gugudan group member released a song called Plant on Tuesday, March 17.

Although previously he often got solo projects, this project is a marker of Sejeong's independent career. Plant is a ballad song that tells a person who gets comfort and serenity from the plants he has. This song is in accordance with Sejeong's voice character who fills a lot of Korean drama soundtracks.

Plant was written by Sunwoo Jung A, a musician who wrote songs for IU, 2NE1, Lee Hi, and others. Some of the tracks on the Plant album were produced by Sejeong. He was inspired to write songs after watching a television show that put his senior, Ravi from group VIXX, placed as the number two singer-songwriter among idols.

The music video uses warm golden hour colors such as transitions from orange and yellow. Several other scenes use the atmosphere of the night with Sejeong wearing a floral dress and dancing along the chorus.

At the age of just 23 years old, he has tried the world of music, acting and variety. However, music is an aspect of his life. "I have a passion in researching music and when I was little I dreamed about the future, I was never tired of studying music."

Kim Sejeong's name was first known when he participated in the Produce 101 competition. At that time, he was second after Jeon Somi and entered the line up in the IOI group

Hailing from the agency Jellyfish, Sejeong's victory at the event surprised various parties especially her abilities during the event which continued to develop. After that, his agency put him as the lead vocal in the group Gugudan and until now he is still working with the group.

In 2016, rapper Zico composed a song called Flower Way for Sejeong after reading Sejeong's personal letter to his mother. The song reached No.1 on the South Korean charts and this will be Sejeong's first solo achievement.

He has filled various Korean drama projects with his voice such as The Legend of Blue Sea, Mr. Sunshine, as well as most recently Crash Landing on You. These songs managed to occupy the charts and made him a solo singer whose project has been eagerly awaited.

After being released, the song Plant immediately entered the South Korean charts. Sejeong - who has also received a lot of support from his friends in the IOI and Gugudan groups - will hold promotions at a number of South Korean events. You can hear Sejeong's first mini album, here:
