Microsoft Research Says Indonesian Netizens Are The Most Disrespectful In Southeast Asia

JAKARTA - The results of Microsoft's research in a report entitled 'Digital Civility Index (DCI)' put Indonesian netizens in 29th place out of 32 countries for the level of politeness of netizens in Southeast Asia. Many netizens did not accept this statement, but Charly from Setia Band proved the truth.

The report is based on a survey of 16.000 respondents in 32 countries. The report's scoring system ranges from a scale of zero to 100. The higher the score, the lower the online politeness in the country.

The online politeness score in Indonesia itself has increased by eight points, from 67 in 2019 to 76 in 2020. In Indonesia, the decline in DCI is entirely driven by adults by +16. This in turn results in a significant reduction in 'extreme pain' caused by negative online interactions by -15 points.

Regarding bullying on the internet, 19 percent of respondents said they were the target of bullying. Meanwhile, 47 percent said they were involved in the incident.

Overall, 54 percent of millennials were hardest hit in that context. Then followed by Generation Z (47 percent), Generation X (39 percent), and Elderly (18 percent).

The DCI report states that Singapore is again a model country in Southeast Asia. The country ranks fourth globally and first in Southeast Asia for its level of online politeness.

How could musician Charly Van Houten fall victim to the immodesty of netizens? Charly admitted that he was furious because his name on the Wikipedia site had changed to Casmali Parli.

"It started with people's dislike, they just kept on calling out Charly's name, Casmali Parli", said Charly, Wednesday, February 23.

"I don't know whether it was for fun or what, suddenly it was taken out of the blue by several media sites and it was believed that the name Charly Van Houten was a fake, which is not true", he continued.

Actually, he had known for a long time about this name mistake, but over time it had a negative impact on bullying. Feeling uncomfortable, Charly admits that he is ready for a fistfight or to go to court if netizens continue to bully him.

Charly wants to clear up the confusion about his real name. "This is education about noble values. We are given a good name by our parents with full of hope and prayer", he added.
