Not Only Breaking Contracts, EXO-CBX Complaints For Antitrust SM Entertainment

JAKARTA - Legal representatives Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin EXO officially complained SM Entertainment to the Korean Fair Trade Commission (Korea Fair Trade Commission) for abuse of position.

Today, Monday, June 5, their representatives revealed several points that they complained about. Points start from the Fair Trade Commission rules that don't allow unfair contracts, but SM doesn't change the contract.

Then the exclusive contract is calculated from the debut date in the entertainment industry, not since the exclusive contract was signed. As a result, the contract period was long and SM did not change contract rules like the Fair Trade Commission.

SM Entertainment did not change the contract period on the grounds that artist activities abroad were not listed in the contract. In addition, the exclusive contract was automatically extended as long as the number of albums released with SM has not been fulfilled.

"We filed a complaint with the Fair Trade Commission in the hope that our little courage could help form a fair popular culture [industry] and for the sake of a junior artist," Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin said.

On the same day SM Entertainment released a new statement regarding the matter. They explain that income reports or settlements are private things so they cannot be shared with third parties.

The settlement report includes various information such as details of the specific activities of each artist, tariffs and settlement methods, down payments, etc. This is confidential information from our agency that should not be disclosed to third parties such as competitors," claims SM Entertainment.

The agency said they always gave their artists the opportunity to look at the report. This time SM actually accused EXO-CBX law enforcement parties of having negative intentions because they could see the report.

"We have decided to provide a copy of the settlement report with the approval and understanding of EXO members on the grounds that the three artists and legal representatives do not use it for unfair purposes," he continued.

Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen EXO filed for their exclusive contract termination on June 1. Then their representatives explained the points of the problem in the contract that SM Entertainment responded to.
