Dawson's Creek Actress Busy Philipps Reveals Her 12 Year Old Son Is Gay

JAKARTA - Busy Philipps revealed that his oldest son was gay and used the pronoun 'they / them' to call him.

In a conversation on her podcast, Busy Phillips Is Doing Her Best last week, the 41-year-old Dawson's Creek star opened up about raising 12-year-old Birdie Leigh with her husband Marc Silverstein.

"For you friends of mine who listen at home, this is the first time you've heard that Birdie is gay and openly exposed," he said.

"Birdie told us at 10 years old."

Phillips added that Birdie's nickname pronoun is 'they / them', but admits that in public he is not used to using the nickname.

Birdie first revealed she was gay when Phillips found her lying on the floor in her bedroom. At that time, he was listening to Harry Styles' Fine Line song over and over again.

"I also lay on the floor and asked: are you okay? You have something to say to me?" said Phillips.

"It's like, I feel like I'm alive but not really alive, you know what I mean? And I want to start that part of the life."

Phillips admitted that he was quite emotional to hear his son's confession. He then gave advice based on his personal life.

"Build your life however you want to build it. And it doesn't have to be anything you've seen," Phillips insisted.

"We have to choose what will make you satisfied and happy," he concluded.
