Avatar 2 Becomes The 5th Recorded Film, Slip Avengers: Infinity War

JAKARTA - Avatar: The Way of Water is declared one of the highest-grossing films in history. In six weeks of screening, the film has earned more than USD 2.054 billion or approximately IDR 30 trillion.

Launching Variety, this 2 billion US dollars is an achievement figure globally. Interestingly Avatar 2 is the only film that managed to get this big during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Avatar 2 also surpassed SpiderMan: No Way Home as the film with the most sales during the pandemic. The acquisition of Avatar 2 also shifts Avengers: Infinity War, which won $ 2,052 billion when it aired in 2018.

This revenue makes James Cameron the director with the three highest-grossing films in history. Apart from Avatar 2, there is a 2009 film Avatar with $2.9 billion and MONEY released in 1997 for $2.2 billion.

It seems that this journey is not completely finished. Cameron once expressed his desire to make five Avatar franchises. The first two have been released while the rest are in the production process.

Avatar is predicted to be the most expensive production franchise. Disney, which acquired 20th Century Fox, spent $350 million on The Way of Water and $100 million building the Pandora set.

In theaters, Avatar 2 still dominates cinemas in the United States in the number of views. Likewise, international screenings are still full of spectators.

"It looks like the momentum the film currently has could have had success in a few days, so I can't avoid this, I have to do another sequel," James Cameron said in a recent interview.
