JAKARTA - Marvel has confirmed Xochitl Gomez will play the role of lesbian teen superhero America Chavez in the sequel to Doctor Strange.

Chavez, also known as Miss America, first appeared in Marvel Comics in 2011. Since then, he's been a fan favorite and people have been asking the character to make his big screen debut for years.

Finally, their dream came true. Gomez will side by side with Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams and Chiwetel Ejiofor in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, due out in 2022.

Deadline's first report in October said Gomez would join the cast. However, at that time it was not known what character he would play.

It has since been revealed that he will be taking on the role of the iconic teen lesbian superhero following a telephone conversation with Disney investors on December 10.

Plot details for the film are not yet known, but it is rumored to be following events recorded in the upcoming Disney + series, WandaVision, which is slated to debut in January, according to EW.

As for Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, has hinted that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will also be related to the upcoming Spider-Man film.
