Drake Calls Grammy Awards 'not Important'

JAKARTA - Despite being nominated for the 2021 Grammy Awards, it seems that Drake agrees with The Weeknd's statement regarding the event.

Wednesday, November 25th, Drake speaks out about the Grammy Awards via his Instagram Story.

"I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnection between impactful music and rewards and accepting what is the highest form of recognition may not be important to current and future artists," Drake said.

"It's like a relative you want to try to improve but they can't change," he said further.

"On the other day I said @theweeknd could enter (to the nomination) between an album or Song of the Year along with other assumptions and it never happened like that."

Drake said, it's good that future generations have to make changes in how an award ceremony happens. "This is the right time for someone to start something new so we can build it up and pass it on to future generations."

In another post, he named Lil Baby, Pop Smoke, Party Next Door, and Popcaan as the artists he thought should be in the nomination. "Too many names to mention ..."

Drake received three nominations at the 2021 Grammy Awards. The song Laugh Now, Cry Later received nominations for Best Melodic Rap Performance and Best Rap Song. In addition, Life is Good, which was nominated for Best Music Video.

Apart from Drake, musician Elton John also supports The Weeknd. He uploaded the Blinding Lights artwork and wrote, "In my opinion, Blinding Lights - Song of the Year, Record of the Year," he said with the hashtag #GrammySnub.

Meanwhile, the song Blinding Lights returned to the US iTunes charts a year after its release.
