JAKARTA - The world's deepest swimming pool has opened in Mszczonow, a city near Warsaw, Poland. The opening took place Saturday, November 21.

The swimming pool called 'Deepspot' is 45.4 meters deep and contains eight thousand cubic meters of water. That size is 20 times the volume of a standard pool which is usually 25 meters.

Not like an ordinary swimming pool. The Deepspot complex can accommodate customers during the COVID-19 pandemic as it is considered a diver training center. Under water, Deepspot displays reproductions of underwater caves and Mayan ruins as well as small wrecks that can be explored.

"There are no fish or beautiful coral reefs here, so this is not a substitute for the sea. But it is really a great place to learn and practice to dive safely," said Przemyslaw Kacprzak, a 39-year-old diving instructor, quoted by Euronews, Monday, November 23rd.

"And it's funny! It's like a kindergarten for divers!" he added.

The swimming pool will also be used by firefighters and soldiers. Construction lasted two years and cost 40 million zlotys (€ 8.9 million). About five thousand cubic meters of concrete are used.

Despite its enormous size, Deepspot will soon lose its crown as a new 50-meter swimming pool, called the 'Abyss', will open in Merseyside, England, in 2021.
