Emergency Declaration Film Review: Airplane Drama Full Of Virus Terror

JAKARTA - Five years after The King, director Han Jae Rim is back with a drama thriller called Emergency Declaration. This film has become one of the most anticipated films of the public since its initial announcement.

Prior to its official release in theaters, Emergency Declaration premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2021. However, the film's screening was delayed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Apart from that, the wait for an Emergency Declaration has paid off. In South Korea, this film has reached 1.8 million viewers in two weeks.

Emergency Declaration is a condition in which an aircraft must make an emergency declaration to anticipate an incident from a major disaster.

The story begins with detective Go In Ho (Song Kang Ho) who receives a report about a planned plane attack by a terrorist. During the investigation, he realized that the plane that the suspect was on was KI501.

On the other hand, a man named Park Jae Hyuk (Lee Byung Hun) is about to start a new life with his son. But he feels angry when he finds out a mysterious man is following him.

Flight KI501 bound for Hawaii departed from Incheon airport. On the way, a man dies for no reason. Airport passengers also suspect that something is hidden from the plane.

Meanwhile, Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation Kim Sook Hee (Jeon Do Yeon) must overcome a terrorist attack on the plane by holding an emergency meeting.

The Emergency Declaration started the action without further ado. The scene starts with Ryu Jin Seok (Im Si Wan) who is annoyed at not being informed. The confrontation scene unfolded tensely thanks to Im Si Wan's extraordinary acting.

Slowly, the characters began to come with their own needs. This makes the background on the KI501 plane the main choice of the characters.

The next challenge came from inside the plane. With a limited location, Han Jae Rim concocted the tension doubled. This is also helped thanks to the acting and tone that makes the film more tense.

The acting ensemble of actors and actresses is unquestionable. However, there are a number of roles that make this film shine, such as Gu In Ho (Song Kang Ho), Choi Hyun Soo (Kim Nam Gil), Ryu Jin Seok (Im Si Wan), Kim Hee Jin (Kim So Jin).

Not South Korea if it doesn't add an emotional side. Even the nearly three-hour film has some heartwarming moments that leave the studio silent.

The long duration might make you bored, but some parts, especially the climax, make your heart touch. The song Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy makes this film even more sad as if you were a passenger on a plane.

Emergency Declaration is an action thriller that can be watched starting today, Tuesday, August 16 at the CGV, Cinepolis, Flix, and Cinema XXI cinema networks.
