YOGYAKARTA – The COVID-19 pandemic has had implications for performing arts, especially traditional arts. “This program started when a number of artists had the opportunity to visit the State Palace in January 2022. At that time, I expressed my concern about the recent situation caused by the pandemic disaster, which has a direct impact on artistic life, focusing more on traditional arts. Because at that time, as we know, how difficult it was for art workers to express themselves, to articulate their thoughts. Because the ban is so strict, I have received many reports that wayang kulit friends are not allowed to be held,” said Butet Kartaredjasa.

For artists, art is their life, for their families. So that without performing arts, especially performing arts, they have no income, added Butet. While the pandemic is not only related to economic matters, but also the freedom to express the aesthetics of various art forms is also limited because everyone is busy saving their own lives.

In this performing arts event, it is hoped that it will have implications for the wheels of the economy. Butet gave an example, the wayang show which around the stage shows a lot of economic use by the surrounding community. Many elements of the community's economy are present so that the wheels of the economy spin, for example culinary traders, crafts, children's toys, parking attendants, and many other parties who reap the fruits of cultural and artistic expression.

In the end, a total of 20 traditional performing arts groups were supported to present their works. Dozens of performances were held in five districts in DI Yogyakarta, starting from the districts of Gunung Kidul, Bantul, Kulonprogo, Sleman, and the city of Yogyakarta.
