Damn Women Become Indonesian Representatives At Oscar 2021

JAKARTA - The film Wanita Tanah Jahanam or Impetigore became Indonesia's representative at the 2021 Oscar for the Best International Feature category.

Today, Tuesday, November 10, Joko Anwar as the director announced this news through his personal Twitter account.

"Impetigore (Women of the Land of Hell) became Indonesia's representative for the 93rd Academy Awards," he said.

Wanita Tanah Jahanam tells of a woman named Maya (played by Tara Basro) who inherits a house in the countryside. Together with her friend Dini (Marissa Anita), the two try to claim the house.

But on the other hand, both of them are not aware that someone is trying to kill Maya to remove the curse that has haunted the village for years.

Last year, Indonesia sent Kucumbu Body Indahku but did not qualify for the nomination.

The film is under the production of BASE Entertainment, Ivanhoe Pictures, Rapi Films, and CJ E&M Film.

Perempuan Tanah Jahanam was first screened at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2020. This film was also awarded Best Asian Film at the 2020 Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival.

In Indonesia, Perempuan Tanah Jahanam won many appreciations with millions of viewers as well as various nominations at the Indonesian Film Festival, including Best Cinematography Director, Best Original Story Screenwriter, and Best Feature Film.

Meanwhile, the Oscar 2021 award will be held on April 25, 2021. Apart from Indonesia, several other countries are also selecting films to become representatives.
