JAKARTA - Surprisingly, Justin Lin resigned from the chair of the director of the 10th Fast & Furious film, entitled Fast X. This official statement was shared by The Fast Saga via his Instagram account.

"With Universal's support, I have made the difficult decision to step down as director of Fast X, but remain as producer," Justin Lin said in a statement Wednesday, April 27.

“Over 10 years and five films, we were able to direct the best actors, the best stunts, and the best car chase scenes. Personally, as an Asian immigrant, I am proud to be able to build a franchise in the film industry," he continued.

Concluding his statement, Justin Lin thanked the entire cast and crew for their cooperation. He himself did not explain the specific reason why he left FAST X production which just started last week.

"I will be forever grateful to the cast, crew and studio for their support and welcoming me to the FAST family."

Justin Lin has directed the Fast & Furious franchise since 2006's Tokyo Drift and then four other films. Then he rejoined F9 in 2021. Reportedly, Lin left because of differences in creative vision with other parties.

Production of Fast X, which started last week, stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Sung Kang, Ludacris, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Brie Larson, Jason Momoa, Charlize Theron, Nathalie Emmanuel and a cameo from rapper Cardi B.

Production is currently on hold until they find a new director. The Fast X film is planned for release in theaters on May 19, 2023.
