Actress Ria Irawan Passes Away

JAKARTA - This morning, January 6, senior actress Ria Irawan passed away. He died at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM), Central Jakarta due to his deteriorating physical condition. In 2004, he began to develop cancer.

He continued to undergo intensive treatment until he was declared cured. But apparently, the cancer cells reappeared and this time it spread to the lungs to the brain. He returned to undergo inpatient treatment starting November 2019. He often shares his journey against cancer through his Instagram account.

During his lifetime, Ria Irawan was known for his artistic and capable acting. Debuting when she was three years old in the film Belas Kasih, Ria Irawan played in more than 20 film projects. He grew up from a family that also worked in the film industry, namely Bambang Irawan (father) and Ade Irawan (mother). Her younger sister, Dewi Irawan is also an actress.

After starting her career as a supporting actor, Ria Irawan finally got the main role as Bila in the film Fajar Menyingsing which was released in 1975. For the 90s generation, Ria Irawan's name was increasingly known through her role in the film Lupus, Biola Tak Berdawai, Arisan !, Quickie Express , as well as Sharing the Husband which earned him the Best Supporting Actor award at the 2006 Indonesian Film Festival (FFI).

Until 2019, Ria Irawan still starred in various films, namely Koboy Kampus and Wedding Agreement. He continues to support Indonesian cinema both by attending FFI events and uploading messages of support to his friends on social media.

Move back a little. In 2015, the band Sore presented a song called R14 for Ria Irawan because of her fight against cancer. The poetic song is heard from the lyrics which reads “You are jasmine in a thorn bush. Waving a story that will continue to tell. The lamp of the bright world. This song was included in the Los Skut Leboys album.

Died at the age of 50, Ria Irawan received condolences from netizens and film industry friends who grew up with him. Arisan! Film director, Nia Dinata wrote on her Twitter; Goodbye friends, good people, who are always happy in joy and sorrow, Ria Irawan. You fought hard and in grace. Rest peacefully (You are struggling hard and sincerely. Rest in peace).

In her photo, Nia Dinata also wrote “Goodbye dear, Ria Irawan. You fought hard. You struggle with sincerity. This is a huge loss for all of us, Indonesian films, for gender equality activists. Rest with love. Rest in peace. Your kindness, your strength, your laughter, will always be remembered .. "
