JAKARTA - Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty was arrested by the police for alleged drug use after the death of her lover Sushant Singh Rajput, who died of suicide last June.
Chakraborty, 28, was arrested on Tuesday, September 8 by the Narcotics Control Bureau of India (NCB) after three days of interrogation by the police.
Chakraborty started dating Rajput in the summer of 2019 before the two ended up living together in December 2019. However, Rajput was found dead in his apartment in Mumbai on June 14, 2019. Rajput is only 34 years old.
According to the BBC as reported by Antara, Wednesday, since his death, the Rajput family has accused Chakraborty of encouraging the actor to commit suicide and siphoning off his money.
In August, Chakraborty denied all allegations in an interview with India Today, saying Rajputs "lived like kings."
"He's going on a private jet, it's his lifestyle choice," he said.
The actress shared a paparazzi video outside her home that month, saying she was trying to liaise with police and various investigative authorities but she and her family needed help leaving their home.
Chakraborty's brother Showit and former Rajput home manager Samuel Miranda have also been arrested in connection with an ongoing drug investigation. The charges against the three have not been proven.
Rajput's younger brother, Shweta Singh Kirti, responded to Chakraborty's arrest on Twitter on Tuesday.

Indian actress Ankita Iokhande, who is Rajput's ex-girlfriend, tweeted, “JUSTICE” after Chakraborty's arrest.
