JAKARTA - Gus Miftah explicitly explained Islamic law regarding funerals according to the gender of Dorce Gamalama since birth. Dorce Gamalama willed that his grave will be near his house, next to the mosque near his house in the Lubang Buaya area. Dorce Gamalama hopes to be buried as a woman.

Nahdatul Ulama (NU) figurehead KH Miftah Maulana Habiburrahman or commonly called Gus Miftah responded to the desire of host Dorce Gamalama to be buried as a woman.

It is known, Dorce Gamalama was born as a male and underwent sex reassignment surgery in 1983. Recently, he expressed his wish to be buried as a female.

Responding to this, Gus Miftah explained that Dorce Gamalama's funeral should still be buried as a man according to his natural nature when he was born.

"What I know is that he was born a man and then underwent surgery to become a woman. If conditions are like this, in fiqh he is still a man. This means, as far as I know, his funeral will certainly return to the nature of origin when he was born," explained Gus Miftah. quoted from ANTARA, Wednesday, January 2.

"So if he was born in a male state, he should also be buried as a male," he asserted.

Unlike the case of the former female volleyball athlete, Aprilia Manganang, who some time ago was declared male, Gus Miftah said the former athlete could be buried as a male because it has a strong medical basis.

"So indeed in Surah Al-Hujarat that Allah created two genders, male and female. In fiqh, there is a third gender called khunsa, the person who is in quotation marks is gender two. So, he wants to be made female or male it must go through a medical analysis," said Gus Miftah.

"At first (Aprilia Manganang) was a woman, after being medically analyzed it turned out to be a man. So if she tends to be a woman, then her male genitals are removed, of course with medical recommendations," he continued.

Gus Miftah also emphasized that even if a person has a will to be buried as a woman even though he is a man by nature, the will does not have to be carried out because it violates the Shari'a.

"The will must be carried out if there is goodness in it. But if it violates the Shari'a, violates religious orders, of course it does not have to be done," he concluded.

Besides Gus Miftah, Buya Yahya also gave almost the same explanation. However, Buya asked the public not to humiliate Dorce. Buya Yahya also commented on the Al-Bahjah TV YouTube channel.

"A man who is born a man, then changed into a woman, in essence he is still a man. The way to treat the corpse is a man, because he is not a real woman," he was quoted as saying Monday, January 31.

Buya Yahya emphasized that Dorce Gamalama still deserves respect. "Because there is one thing that is different in him that needs to be fixed, so don't get used to berating or making fun of him," said Buya Yahya.

Hearing Buya's explanation, Dorce seemed calmer. Not like when he got an explanation from Gus Miftah.

"I have great respect, respect for Buya Yahya. Compared to others, Buya Yahya is an extraordinary scholar who is full of social spirit, a big soul, who doesn't bring people down, doesn't insult people, doesn't blaspheme people. Thank you Buya Yahya," said Dorce in the video uploaded on Instagram @dg_kcp quoted Wednesday, February 2.

Dorce admits that he is sincere, however, his body will be taken care of if he dies. "People have started to talk a lot about my death, if I die, take care of my corpse. Take care of it according to the gender I have. God willing, I am sincere," concluded Dorce Gamalama.
