JAKARTA - The story of Indonesia's struggle for independence is never finished being peeled into a film story. One of them is the film Para Perintis Kemerdekaan, which was released in 1977. The film Para Perintis Kemerdekaan, directed by Asrul Sani, was nominated as the best film at the Indonesian Film Festival in 1980.

This film stars the famous actor of his time, namely Cok Simbara. The story begins with the arrest of Haji Jalaluddin (Mansyur Syahdan) while delivering a sermon, making an impression on the hearts of his followers, especially Hamid (Cok Simbara) and Halimah (Mutiara Sani).

Halimah is the wife that her pro-Dutch husband neglected. Meanwhile, Hamid is the son of a rich merchant who fell into poverty and died after being labeled a rebel.

Hamid was brought by his mother to Padang and raised in the family of Haji Jakfar (Rendra Karno), Zaenab's father (Camelia Malik). Hamid studied in Padang Panjang and met old friends, Fakhrudin (Arman Effendy) and Zainudin (Soultan Saladin).

Hamid and Fakhrudin are getting closer to their teacher's tricks, while Zainudin is getting more radical. Hamid and his friends fight for Halimah's fate. Hamid sailed to Mecca, disappointed that Zaenab married someone else. Halimah continued the struggle, but was eventually captured by the Dutch.

The Pioneers of Independence will be part of a series of Historical Special Films that will be broadcast on tvOne on January 23, 2022 at 20.00 WIB.
