JAKARTA - Early detection of tuberculosis (TB) is a crucial step in efforts to suppress the spread of this infectious disease. Through screening from the beginning, cases can be found faster so that treatment can be carried out immediately and the risk of transmission to others can be minimized.
The Health Office for Population Control and Family Planning of Madiun City continues to intensify efforts to find new TB cases in order to achieve the government's target of elimination by 2030.
The head of the local service, Denik Wuryani, stated that every year the health service facilities in Madiun City are targeted to be able to find more than 1,000 cases of TB.
"One year, our target is more than 1,000 TB cases that must be found by health service facilities in Madiun City," he said.
To accelerate detection, the "Gerebek TBC" program continues to be intensified to the level of the village by involving puskesmas personnel and Primary Integrated Posyandu (ILP) cadres.
In addition, the public is also encouraged to conduct self-screening through the E-Tibi application. Through this platform, residents can fill in their personal data and health history, such as prolonged cough symptoms or a history of contact with TB sufferers, making it easier to identify early.
Service data shows that the number of TB cases found in Madiun City in the last two years is relatively high. In 2025, a total of 1,281 cases were recorded, an increase compared to 2024 which reached 1,268 cases. Meanwhile, at the beginning of 2026, 158 new cases have been found.
Cumulatively, in the last three years the number of TB cases found reached 2,707 cases. Interestingly, about half of the total are patients from outside the city of Madiun who undergo treatment in the area.
The local Health Office continues to optimize screening through various community programs. On the other hand, TB patients are urged to undergo treatment regularly and completely for at least six months so that they can recover completely. This treatment service is available free of charge at all health centers.
