JAKARTA - The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) affirms its commitment to accelerate the cleaning process to restoring health services in a number of hospitals affected by floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

The main priority at this time is to ensure that basic health services can resume running. The Ministry of Health team works continuously at the location so that this facility can immediately be used by the community," said the Director of Health Surveillance and Quarantine at the Ministry of Health, Sumarjaya, in a statement received in Jakarta, Sunday.

He added that the government is focused on ensuring that health care facilities can be accessed by the public as soon as possible, given the high post-disaster needs.

At the Aceh Tamiang Hospital, the cleaning process has been carried out since morning with the help of the TNI and the Fire Service. The emergency installation area (IGD) which was previously submerged has been handled, followed by sterilization of polyclinic rooms and hemodialysis units. The Ministry of Health ensures that the stock of drugs is still available because the pharmacy warehouse on the second floor is in a safe condition.

To support temporary operations, the hospital has also received a generator with a capacity of 66,000 watts which is now functioning, as well as an additional 100,000 watt generator that has been alerted. In addition, the technical team from Adam Malik Hospital is still conducting an examination of the affected medical equipment.

Similar logistical support was also sent to the Datu Beru Hospital in Central Aceh. Through the assistance of the Sikorsky helicopter belonging to the Indonesian Air Force, a generator of 250 kWh has been distributed from Sultan Iskandar Muda Air Base. PLN also ensures that the electrical installation is immediately connected because some areas of the hospital have received electricity supplies again.

In addition, PLN sent two additional generators with a capacity of 250,000 watts each for Datu Beru Hospital and 100,000 watts for Muyang Kute Hospital in Bener Meriah Regency. The entire distribution process is carried out by air because land access is still limited.

Sumarjaya expressed his appreciation for the quick work of cross-institutions involved in the recovery process.

"We really appreciate the quick response from PLN and the Indonesian Air Force which directly distributed generators, transport planes, and helicopters. This collaboration greatly accelerates the recovery of health care facilities," he said.

He emphasized that sterilizing the service room and examining medical equipment is an important step before the service is reopened.

"When the hospital returns to operation, everything must be completely safe and suitable for use," he said.

With the support for the acceleration of this recovery, the Ministry of Health targets basic services at hospitals affected by disasters to be carried out gradually in the near future.
