Obesity Becomes A Real Threat, Many Young People Die At A Productive Age

JAKARTA - Deaths at a young age are now getting higher. This is due to the shift in the main cause of infectious diseases into non-communicable diseases (PTM), such as cardiovascular disorders, namely heart disease to stroke.

Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Dante Saksono Harbuwono, said that one of the main risk factors that cause cardiovascular disease is obesity.

In people with obese conditions, fat tissues can secrete more cytokines or cytokines. Cytokine is a dangerous substance that can cause metabolic disorders more quickly.

Mainly because it is related to cardiovascular disease. The point is obesity. In the past, fat tissue was a supporting network, but evaluating the evidence based showed that the fat tissue also issued a cytokine," said Dante, when met at Mall of Indonesia, North Jakarta, on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

"Cytokine is a dangerous substance for some things that can cause heart blood vessels and metabolic disorders more quickly," he added.

With the increasing release of cytokine from the fat tissue, the potential for heart disease, stroke, and hypertension is increasing. If not treated properly, these various health conditions can eventually cause death.

"So many young people are now obese, so many have suffered strokes, have heart disease, have diabetes, hypertension due to cytokine-cytokine are released from fat cells that exist in the youth group," he said.

Therefore, Dante emphasized that related education is alert to obesity, especially among young people, needs to be done more actively. This education is related to the application of a healthy lifestyle, such as reducing the consumption of sweet and high calorie foods.

"We continue to educate the public to reduce the potential for obesity, by reducing sugary foods, high calories, and so on. The most important thing now is education," concluded Dante.
