JAKARTA - Milk is not just a complementary drink. In the context of community nutrition and human resource development, milk is one of the key elements that support health, growth, and physical and mental performance.
Food nutrition and technology experts from the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) emphasized the importance of making milk part of the daily consumption pattern of Indonesians.
"For more effectiveness, it is the first time to drink milk after moving during activities, then before going to bed," said Prof. Hardinsyah MS PhD, Professor of Nutrition Science, Department of Community Nutrition FEMA and Chairman of the Board of Trustees (MWA) IPB, when met at IPB University, West Java on Monday, June 2.
According to him, the time of consumption of milk plays an important role in the absorption of nutrients and body recovery after activities.
Furthermore, Prof. Hardinsyah explained that milk contributes benefits in terms of nutrition and non-gizi.
"Consuming from nutrition and non-gizi, it affects growth, development, immunity, hormonality, performance, and preventing disease," he said.
Research also shows that regularly consuming milk can improve physical performance and help restore muscle function.
"The right way to consume milk is for 6 weeks, then you can practice muscles to increase muscle size, strength, endurance, IGF-1, testosterone, and follistatin compared to the placebo group and people who lower the hormone cortisol and myostatin," explained Prof. Hardiansyah.
This data confirms that milk plays a real role in supporting physical adaptation during training.
However, milk consumption in Indonesia is still relatively low. One of the factors that causes it is the dominance of a simple high-carb diet, especially in areas such as West Java.
"Most carbohydrates, yes. Especially in West Java, cimol snacks, cilok, yes, everything is aci. Bala is all flour, it continues to be crackers. Carbohydrates are necessary, but not all carbohydrates," said Prof. Dr. Epi Taufik, S.Pt., Professor of Science & Milk Technology IPB and Member of the Expert Team of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN).
He suggested national nutrition interventions, starting with children and adolescents who are in the growth phase.

"That's why there is nutritious food. There must be a national nutrition intervention. For children and adolescents who are growing, it is well forced. Everyone will drink milk and milk farmers will be absorbed with this," said Prof. Epi.
This step will not only have an impact on the health of the younger generation, but also support the local dairy farming industry. He stressed that education and national milk-drinking must continue to be intensified, so that consumption consistently increases.
In commemoration of World Milk Day (World Milk Day) 2025, PT Frisian Flag Indonesia (FFI) reiterated its commitment to supporting national development through improving nutrition and empowering the younger generation.
"We hope that consumption will slowly increase, from upstream to downstream, as I said earlier, the industry will be excited, it will be useful to all," said Director of Corporate Affairs of PT Frisian Flag Indonesia, Andrew F. Saputro.
Through the 'Goes to Campus' program, FFI collaborates with governments, academics, and other stakeholders to encourage awareness of the importance of milk as part of the national food security strategy. This event not only educates on the benefits of milk for health, but also discusses ongoing efforts in developing the Indonesian dairy cow industry.
Not only for the people of Indonesia, but also for all the actors, the existing sector from upstream to downstream. So hopefully, MBG (Free Nutrition Food) will receive more benefits. Hopefully more Indonesian children will get used to drinking milk every day." continued Andrew.
With the spirit of 'Susuka' for Indonesia's Future, Frisian Flag Indonesia takes an active role as a strategic partner in building a healthy and highly competitive generation. Daily milk consumption is not just a habit, but a long-term investment for the nation's future.
