JAKARTA - Skin fungal infections are often taken lightly, even though they can be contagious and affect anyone. In fact, based on data from the Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) in 2023, people with skin mold in Indonesia reach 40 million people. Some of the causes are conditions of temperature in Indonesia and activities carried out by people outside the room.

Secretary General of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Doctors Association (PB IDI), dr. Ulul Albab, Sp.OG., said there are several factors that need to be watched out for regarding skin mold infections.

"For those who often do outdoor activities, there are several factors that need to be watched out for regarding skin fungus infections. High humidity and heat in tropical countries such as Indonesia can accelerate fungal growth. In addition, excessive sweat results from outdoor exercise or work and lacks maintaining skin hygiene creates an ideal environment for fungi to develop," said dr. Ulul when met by VOI at the launch event of the SIGAP program (Detection Symptoms, Overcome with Kalpanax) recently in Jakarta.

He added that direct contact with contaminated surfaces, such as sharing towels, shoes, or clothing, also increases the risk of infection. Also, conditions in some areas that experience flooding in the rainy season as they are today can also increase the risk of someone suffering from skin mold infection.

"A number of things can trigger the spread of skin mold infection diseases. Unfortunately, there are still many who ignore treatment or choose less effective solutions," he explained.

For this reason, Head of Digestive and Skin Category Kalbe Consumer Health, Revi Octaria, emphasized that skin mold infections must be treated regularly and according to the dose, so that the fungus can be eradicated to the root. If not handled properly, the infection can recur.
