Open Since 1980, Matahari Department Store In Bogor Owned By Conglomerate Mochtar Riady Finally Closes, Here's The Impact According To Department of Industry and Commerce

JAKARTA - PT Matahari Department Store Tbk has again closed its outlets due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This time, the retail outlet owned by conglomerate Mochtar Riady which was closed was at Taman Topi Kota Bogor.

The Department of Industry and Trade of the City of Bogor highlighted the economic impact of the closure of one of these "city landmarks". In fact, Matahari Department Store outlets in the area have been serving the public since 1980.

"Right, those who work in retail may be dismissed, parking will also be non-existent, for regional income," said Head of the Department of Industry and Trade of Bogor City, Ganjar Gunawan, quoted from Antara, Thursday, September 23.

At the outlet that is closed. There is information posted at the outlet that Matahari Taman Topi, previously known as de Zon (Dutch for Matahari) since 1960, before it was purchased by the owner of the Matahari Department Store, in 1980, had closed as of September 16, 2021.

People can still shop at Matahari at Lipo Plaza Ekalokasari on Jalan Siliwangi, Sukasari, Bogor City or at Cibinong City Mall on Jalan Tegar Beliman, Bogor Regency.

Previously, Matahari had four outlets in Bogor, namely at Bogor Trade World on Jalan Veteran, Lipo Plaza Keboen Raya, Matahari Taman Topi, and Lipo Plaza Ekalokasari. Currently only one is open in Ekalokasari.

Ganjar said that with Matahari's management decision to close almost all outlets in Bogor City, it contributed to the number of unemployed in Bogor City.

According to Ganjar, this action follows PT Hero Supermarket Tbk, which had previously closed Giant outlets even throughout Indonesia since August 1, 2021, including at various locations in Bogor City.

"Obviously, there is an impact," said Ganjar.
