Good News From Garuda Indonesia, This National Airline Increases The Frequency Of Flying To Papua Ahead Of The PON Event

JAKARTA - The national airline Garuda Indonesia and its subsidiary Citilink have decided to increase the frequency of flights to and from Papua.

President Director of Garuda Indonesia Irfan Setiaputra said this step was intended to support the implementation of the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) 2021 which will be held in October.

"The addition of flight capacity is also a follow-up to the strategic partnership with the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) which also established Garuda Indonesia as the Official Airline," he said in a press statement, quoted Tuesday, September 21.

According to Irfan, by increasing the frequency of flights during the period from September 25 to October 16, the company will serve at least 142 flights to and from Papua.

"This will later be connected from two Garuda Indonesia flight hubs, namely Jakarta and Denpasar," he said.

Irfan added, in addition to increasing the frequency for the destination of Papua, Garuda also added flights on a number of domestic routes to increase the accessibility of flight services from various regions in Indonesia to Papua.

Meanwhile, Citilink from September 7 to October 25, 2021, said Irfan, also added to the frequency of flights to and from Jayapura with a total of at least 156 flights served from a number of flight hubs such as Jakarta, Makassar and Surabaya.

"As our effort to help maintain the physical fitness of the athletes who will compete, Garuda Indonesia will also adjust the transit time on flights to and from Papua," continued Irfan.

Furthermore, Garuda Indonesia is also said to provide special discounts of up to 15 percent and additional baggage at the XX Papua PON 2021 event for all athletes, contingents and officials who will fly.

Then, the state-owned airline provides a dedicated counter check-in facility to facilitate the accessibility of the pre-flight process for all athletes, contingents and officials.
